Around 200 students of city schools held a rally on the occasion of World Biodiversity Day at Sukhna Lake on Thursday.
The students of St John's High School, Sector 26, Chandigarh, held a campaign to urge people to stand up for their rights to eco justice. The students of St John's High School were joined by Carmel Convent and Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School students. Underprivileged children from Khelshala NGO were also present on the occasion and raised their voice for the cause.
The objective of the event was to create awareness for children's rights to clean environment, clean air and water, toxin-free food, conservation of heritage and open spaces to play.
The message of eco justice was put across through skits, songs and speeches. The plight of creatures like honeybee and sparrow due to environment pollution was brought to the fore through a skit.
The need to conserve water and its judicious usage were accentuated.
Principal of St John's High School, Kavita Das expressed her delight over the fact that the children were undertaking such activities voluntarily.
