The girl, Amandeep Kaur, a resident of Dholewal village in Ferozepur, used to stay in a paying guest accommodation in Phase 5, SAS Nagar.

The convict, 22-year-old Gurmeet Singh, alias Gora of Razzowala village in Ferozepur, had pumped three bullets into Amandeep from a point-blank range.

“Gurmeet murdered Aman-deep out of frustration as she was not agreeing to marry him but the murder does not quantify to be a rarest of rare case warranting death penalty,” read the order of additional district and sessions judge Dilbagh Singh Johal.

The court also imposed a fine of `1.05 lakh on the convict of which `1 lakh would be paid as compensation to the victim’s kin.

Meanwhile, co-accused in the case Angrez, 26, a resident of Mamdot village in Ferozepur, was awarded three-year jail along with a fine of `5,000 for providing his licensed .32-bore revolver and cartridges to Gurmeet.

Amandeep and her friends had shifted to SAS Nagar 10 days before she was shot dead. The victim, who had done master of computer applications (MCA), was undergoing a PHP (computer language) training course in Sector 45.

Gurmeet’s cousin Angrez, who was also booked in the case, had told the police that Gurmeet had taken the weapon from his house in his absence.
The Verdict
