Twenty-five labourers in Gurgaon were on Saturday sent to police custody for indulging in vandalism and arson at a construction site in the city Friday, police said. Police also filed a criminal case against the contractors for not providing proper safety equipment to workers.

"We have filed a criminal case against the officials of Larsen and Toubro (L&T) and Alufit for forcing labourers to work without providing safety equipment. We have also sent 25 workers to jail for the vandalism and arson that they indulged in Friday," a police official told IANS.

Angered over the death of a co-worker Babul Hasan (25) from Baghpat (Uttar Pradesh) labourers at a construction site of L&T and Alufit had pelted stones at private vehicles and torched a police gypsy on Friday.
