A 25-year-old labourer was killed after a fellow labourer poured acid on him at Industrial Area on Thursday, after an altercation turned violent. The victim has been identified as Rajeev and the accused as Ranjeet.
The incident took place at a factory named CPI, located in Industrial Area Phase-1, where articles of iron and metal are made. Acid is also used in the factory. During the wee hours of Thursday, the duo was working at the plot and they entered into a verbal spat over sharing of work, which turned ugly. They started thrashing each other. In the meantime, Ranjeet picked up a mug of acid lying near them and poured on Rajeev.
Hearing Rajeev’s shrieks, others present on the factory premises rushed to help him and raised the alarm. The victim was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Meanwhile, Ranjeet managed to escape from the spot and the police are yet to arrest him.
Assistant superintendent of police (ASP, east) Parminder Singh said both labourers staying in Hallomajra and were working in the factory for more than a year now.
He added, “The exact cause of death will be ascertained only after the post-mortem report whether the labourer died due to scuffle or pouring of acid. Ranjeet has been booked under sections 326-A (punishment for acid throwing) and 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC and investigation in the matter has been initiated.”
