A 26-year-old man committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan at Mataur village in SAS Nagar, on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, an auto driver and resident of Mataur village. The police have found a suicide note but the victim has not accused anyone in it. However, the note said he took this extreme step due to depression.

Station house officer (SHO) Mataur police station, Rajiv Kumar said they received information about this early in the morning on Friday, but the victim committed suicide on Thursday.

Kumar added that Sukhwinder was alone at home on Thursday night since his wife and daughter were visiting a relative.

He further added that the wife returned in the morning to find her husband hanging from the ceiling fan. Soon after, she informed the police after which cops rushed him to a civil hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The police have initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and the body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem.
