The 2nd edition of Miss Himalaya pageant formally began with introduction of the contestants at McLeodganj suburb of Dharamsala town on Friday. Five contestants from the Himalayan region are participating in the annual event, which has being organised by Lobsang Wangyal Productions- the promoters of the famous Miss Tibet pageant.

Two of the contestants are from Bhutan, while three are from the state. Surprisingly no Tibetan girl is participating in the event.

The five contestants are Dawa Dema and Kuenzang Choden from Thimpu, Bhutan and Jyoti Dogra and Shikha Sharma from Dharamsala and Priyanka Dogra from Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh.

Introducing the contestants, director of the event Lobsang Wangyal said the competition rounds would begin on October 4 at Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), and include talk and talent rounds. The finale would be held on October 5.

“In the finale there will be three rounds-traditional costume and interview rounds, followed by the crowing of the winner,” said Wangyal.

The first prize of rs1lakh is being sponsored by Pema Khandu, the tourism and water resource minister of Arunachal Pradesh, while the second prize is sponsored by an Japanese organisation called Rainbow Children and the third prize by United Nations for a Free Tibet.

Wangyal has urged more sponsors to voluntarily come forward so that expenditure on the logistics could be met.
