3 get 5-month jail for attacking police party

The district and session court on Thursday awarded five-months jail to three persons held guilty for attacking a police party at Ramdarbar in May 2013.

Additional district and session judge Sahlini S Nagpal also imposed a fine of `1000 on the convicts identified as Rameshwar (51) and Sitaram (24), residents of Ramdarbar, and Krishan alias Angrez (20), a resident of Hallomajra. The accused have spent about six months in jail while waiting for the court hearing.

The UT police had booked the trio in May 2013 on charges of assault, illegal confinement and criminal intimidation. UT police home guard volunteer Gyan Singh was injured in an attack launched by the accused.

As per the police statement, a police team had reached Ramdarbar following a complaint by Babli who alleged that her husband's relatives were trying to forcibly evict her from the house. The complainant had alleged that her husband's relative Rameshawar along with the two other accused, in order to evict her, had started throwing her belongings from the house on May 10, 2013 at about 8pm.

Once informed, the police reached the spot. The accused started pelting stones following an argument, injuring the home guard volunteer.
