Three Indian participants to the Winter games, that begins at Sochi in Russia today, would not be able to compete under the Indian flag. Asian luge medalist Shiva Keshavan, skier Himanshu Thakur and Crosscountry skier Nadeem Iqbal, would now compete only under the Olympic flag.
The development took place as the Indian Olympic association (IOA) failed to hold elections before Sochi Opening Ceremonies. The IOA opted to hold the elections two days after on February 9.
It is pertinent to mention here that International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended the Indian Olympic Association’s (IOA) membership after the IOA elected an official whose name figured in corruption cases in December 2012. To regain acceptable status, the IOC required the IOA redraft its constitution and hold new elections before the start of next games, in this case the Sochi Opening Ceremonies on February 7.
