Mystery shrouds the death of three men whose motionless bodies were recovered from the banks of Narwana canal, near Naggal village, in Ambala on Tuesday morning.
Though the police suspect the deaths to be a case of suicide, they are awaiting the post-mortem examination results before reaching a conclusion.
The deceased, identified as Deepak, Manoj and Balkar, hailed form Kirora village in Kaithal district and were aged between 20 and 23.
The bodies were first noticed by villagers in the morning. On finding the youths lying unconscious, they informed Naggal police station, following which a team led by police station house officer (SHo) Prem Singh reach the spot and took the bodies to the civil hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.
The SHO said the family members of the deceased were informed and they reached the hospital soon after.
Manoj's brother Naresh said Manoj had gone out with friends in the evening. Naresh said that when Manoj did not return home by 11pm, he phoned him. But Manoj told him that he was at a marriage and would be back soon. He claimed that thereafter his phone was switched off.
An empty box containing insecticide and liquor bottle were also found near the spot. The SHO said forensic experts also visited the spot and collected evidence. "The cause of death will be known only after the report of the post-mortem examination arrives," he said.
