Three members of a family including a one-year-old boy were killed on Saturday when the car they were travelling in rammed into a tree while trying to avoid a motorcyclist.
The accident occurred near Salani village on the Amloh-Mandi Gobindgarh.
The victims were identified as Manpreet Singh (25), his sister-in-law Gurmeet Kaur (30) and her son Harjot Singh (1), all residents of Himmatgarh Channa village, near Amloh.
The remaining three - Gagandeep Kaur, Samarpreet Singh and Samarpreet Kaur -were rushed to the civil hospital. It was learnt that their condition was stable.
As per information, the six family members were on their way to meet relatives in Talwara village. Near Salani village, a motorcyclist coming from the Mandi Gobindgarh side came in front of the car. While trying to avoid hitting the motorcyclist, the car rammed into a tree killing the three family members on the spot.
Passersby took out the bodies of the victims and the injured out of the car and took them to the civil hospital.
Investigating officer Ashok Kumar from the Amloh police station said that the car was over speeding as three of them died on the spot.
Kumar said they had initiated inquest proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC.
