Three students were killed on the spot while another suffered serious injuries when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a mini-truck at Danora village adjoining Naraingarh, around 40km from Ambala, on Thursday morning.

The victims, who were in the 16-17 age group, have been identified as Om Parkash, Mukesh and Kamal, while the injured Lucky has been shifted to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.

The three were declared brought dead at the local civil hospital.

All three deceased, as well as the injured victim, belonged to Purewala village near Naraingarh and were Class-12 students, said the police.

They were on their way to their school — all four on one bike — when the mishap occurred.

The truck driver fled the spot and the vehicle was impounded, officials said, adding that a case was registered against the driver.

Meanwhile, following the tragedy a pall of gloom descended upon the village. Villagers said the four youngsters were friends and had left for school around 7am.
