An international conference on ‘Harnessing engineering, technology and innovation for sustainable development’ was held at Dr SSB University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (SSBUICET), Panjab University (PU),on Friday. The two-day-long conference was conducted under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-II) as a part of a series of conferences.
More than 300 delegates participated in the conference. Chandigarh special secretary, technical education and director of higher education, Sandeep Hans, inaugurated the conference. Hans said there was a lack of interaction between academia and industry in the country and stressed on the need to fill the gap between the two. He said the academia needed to think about applying expert knowledge in real-life situations. He also discussed the UT administration’s initiatives in the field of technical education. PU vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover, who presided over the function, the international conference aimed to contribute towards enhancing the knowledge base of the academia.
Mentor of TEQIP-II Nagabhushna Rao and PU dean of research LK Bansal were the guests of honour for the conference. In Friday’s first plenary session, director, Cairn India Limited, Suniti Bhat emphasised that innovation had a dramatic impact not only on just the bottom line of individual companies, but also on national economies.
Senior vice-president, Petronet LNG, Pushp Khetarpal, spoke on the challenges in developing sustainable and scientific solutions to solve the problems of this age and increase the output and productivity, attended the second plenary session.
