31-year-old man arrested for rape

A 31-year-old resident of Sohana village was arrested on the charges of raping a woman, in SAS Nagar on Friday. The accused has been identified as Charanjit Singh, who hails from Ferozepur in Punjab.

The victim, a resident of Sector 40, Chandigarh, alleged that she was exploited on the fake promises of a job. In her complaint, she stated that the accused worked as a driver with a medicine company and she came in touch with him when he ensured her of a job in the company in which he was working.

She alleged that the accused told her that the post of a receptionist was vacant in the company, where she could be employed.

She further added that the accused called her to meet on May 4 and took her to a hotel by saying that an interview was scheduled there, where he allegedly raped her.

A case has been registered against Charanjit under sections 376 (rape) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code on Thursday.

Station house officer (SHO) of the Phase 1 police station Rajiv Kumar said the accused was nabbed from Sohana village in the wee hours of Friday.
