35-year-old pedestrian killed in road mishap

A 35-year-old pedestrian was killed in a road accident after being hit by a motorcycle here on Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Amar Singh, a resident of Maloya.

Inspector Gurmukh Singh, SHO of the Sector-39 police station, said the victim was hit near Sector 37/38 dividing road by a motorcycle driven by Surender Kumar, a resident of Buterala.

The duo was rushed to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) where Amar was declared brought dead. His body has been kept in the hospital mortuary and will be handed over to the family after post-mortem examination. Amar was unemployed, while the accused is working on contract job at the PGIMER.

A case under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused, who was arrested and later released on bail.

In another incident, Sunil Sahni, a resident SAS Nagar, alleged that he was knocked down by driver of car (HR-03N-4334), which sped away after hitting him in Sector 37. The victim sustained injuries and was rushed to the PGIMER. The police are yet to make arrest in the case.
