A 35-year-old home guard jawan posted at crime investigation department (CID) wing of the Chandigarh police was killed in a hit-and-run accident.
The deceased has been identified as Raj Kumar, a resident of Sector 38. Police said that Kumar was hit by an unknown vehicle near the Sector-16 cricket stadium on November 19 when he was returning home on his motorcycle (CH-04-4721). Meanwhile, police have registered a case against unidentified persons.
Dilsher Singh Chandel, station house officer (SHO), Sector 17, said that the incident took place on November 19 at about 10:15pm.
The victim was taken to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) where he succumbed to injuries on November 20.
A case under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life), 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been registered.
Raj Kumar’s neighbour, Dinesh Kumar, said that Kumar was preparing to appear for the physical examination for the post of constable at Police Lines, Sector 26.
