4 booked for manhandling woman cop

The local police booked four Mauli Jagran residents for allegedly manhandling and misbehaving with a woman constable here on Monday.

Sources in the police said Mangat Ram and his three accomplices have been booked for allegedly misbehaving with Poonam Devi.

According to information, when police control room received a call about an accident near a government school at Mauli Jagran in the wee hours on Monday, a team of cops, including Devi, reached the spot where two persons were found injured.

The injured identified as Yogesh and Mahesh had claimed that their Alto was hit by an unidentified auto driver.

In the meantime, a group of persons gathered at the scene and blocked the road. Mangat Ram, who was leading the group, allegedly misbehaved with the woman constable and even hit her along with three other accomplices. Thereafter, Devi was taken to hospital for first aid. Mangat Ram along with his three others managed to escape the spot.

The police said a case was registered and efforts to nab the accused were on. In the last two months, a total of 12 cases of misbehaviour with cops have come to fore, but police are yet to come up with a strategy to minimise such incidents.
