Following the killing of a security guard at HDFC Bank's Durga Nagar branch on January 26, police on Tuesday sealed over 40 ATMs which were without security guards. The robbers had strangulated ATM security guard Shahil Saini (21), a resident Durga Colony, who had resisted their attempt to loot the ATM, on January 26.
Ambala-Panchkula police commissioner Ajay Singhal, in a press release, said that as a preventive measure, ATMs without security guards had been sealed and police would also check the arrangements at the city ATMs.
He also said that this month alone, seven ATMs have been targeted by mistreatments. He also claimed that police had identified three gangs, one based in Chandigarh and another from Murdabad, while a special investigation team had been constituted to nab the third gang.
The note reads that these gangs are active in Baddi, Parwanu, Ambala, Kaithal, Panchkula and in neighbouring Punjab districts. The commissioner of police said persons providing a clue about the robbers would be suitably rewarded.
