Police here on Thursday issued fines to 400 motorists for various traffic violations as part of a special drive that was launched to check incidents of snatching and speeding.
In the morning, checkpoints were laid at seven locations in the city and fines were issued to 260 motorists, including to 210 for speeding, six for black film and 44 for other offences. Two vehicles were impounded.
In the afternoon, checkpoints were laid at 41 locations from 11 am to 2 pm and fines were issued to 75 motorists for various traffic violations. Also, 11 Vehicles were impounded. Police collected Rs 25,000 on the spot as compounding fee.
Similarly in the evening, police laid 42 joint checkpoints and, during checking of 1665 vehicles, 65 fines were issued for various traffic violations. Also, three vehicles were impounded. Police plan to continue with the drive.
