51 people were killed and 46 others injured, when a private bus (HP68-4949) they were travelling in, rolled down into a 300 feet deep gorge in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh.
"The bus was on its way to Chamba from Dulera town when it plunged into the gorge near Rajera and 51 people have died," said Chamba deputy commissioner Sunil Chadhary, adding that 46 injured have been admitted to the Zonal hospital of Chamba.
Deceased include 18 women and two children, they were going for shopping in the famous Minjar fair which is to conclude on Sunday.
"39 people died on the spot while others succumbed to the injuries on their way to hospital. Condition of the 10 injured is critical," said superintendent of Police (SP), Chamba, Kuldeep Sharma.
Meanwhile witnesses said, the bus was overcrowded and driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve.
Police and medical teams reached the spot immediately after the news spread in the town, however, the local people had already started search and rescue operations which was still on at the time of filing the report.
