A 52-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his house here on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Shamsunder Chugh, a resident of Mubarkpur village in Dera Bassi.
Police also recovered a suicide note in which the deceased had held a money lender responsible for his death.
On the basis of suicide note, the police have registered a case against Jagdish Benipal, a native of Jaipur in Rajasthan, under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.
Inspector Gurjit Singh, station house officer at the Dera Bassi police station, said according to the suicide note, Shamsunder had borrowed some money from Jagdish and in lieu of which he had given him blank cheques.
It was alleged in the suicide note that Jagdish kept on harassing him on phone while demanding more money though he had paid the principal amount with interest. Dejected over repeated threatening calls, he had decided to end his life, the suicide note read.
The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination on Saturday, Gurjit added.
