55-year-old man gets 5 years in jail for culpable homicide
District and sessions judge Dilbagh Singh Johal awarded five-year sentence to a 55-year-old man after holding him guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder on Thursday. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 after convicting him under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Rs 500 under section 181 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The convict, Jagmal Singh, is a resident of Rajpur village in Yamunanagar, Haryana.
The prosecution submitted that Jagmal was driving a truck under the influence of alcohol and rammed the vehicle into Ram Surender Pathak and Satyansha in Ballopur village in Lalru on July 30, 2012. The duo was rushed to a hospital. However, doctors declared Ram brought dead.
A case was registered on the complaint of Mam Chand, resident of Malakpur village in SAS Nagar. Chand had witnessed the incident and stated in his complaint that after hitting the pedestrians, the truck driver rammed the vehicle into a shop. Satyansha and Mam Chand were prime witnesses in the case.
