Mumbai-based Hira Lal Yadav has been touring on bicycle across the country since 1997 to create awareness about environment and generate patriotic feelings among countrymen.
The 57-year-old, who is on his way from Jammu to Kanyakumari, in a press conference organised at the PWD rest house, here on Tuesday, claimed it to be his 15th bicycle trip.
He had started from Jammu on February 5 and is expected to reach Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Kanyakumari, in the first week of August.
According to him, he has also cycled through South-East Asian countries such as Thailand, Lagos, Vietnam and Cambodia, and has pedaled about 3 lakh kilometers till date. He has been creating awareness about water conservation, communal harmony and maintaining ecological balance by giving lectures and doing road shows. He claimed to have given lectures in over 600 schools, colleges and universities in the last 18 years.
“During all these years I have visited the homes of hundreds of soldiers who have laid down their lives to safeguard our freedom,” said Yadav, adding that he was at the place of action during the Kargil war.
“I used to post letters of the soldiers to their families,”he recalled.
A poet, Yadav said his poetry book ‘Salam Sainik’ was released by former president Abdul Kalam last year.
