60 Cong leaders question PPCC disciplinary notices

More than 60 Punjab Congress leaders, including legislators, office bearers, district presidents and the people who contested the latest Lok Sabha elections, on Friday questioned “the attempts to gag their voice using disciplinary ploy”.

They claimed they had raised their voice in the interest of the party and the PPCC (Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee) leadership’s issuing them threats of disciplinary action would not solve the problem but amount to running away from it.

They said it was unfortunate that instead of taking lessons from the debacle in the parliamentary elections, some leaders were “still not prepared to accept the ground reality and listen to the people with grass-roots connection”.

In a joint statement issued here, the leaders pointed out that these were not isolated voices but the opinion of more than two-dozen legislators or more than half the party strength in the Punjab assembly.

They had been issued notices for going to the media and demanding action against state party president Partap Singh Bajwa, rather than raising the matter at a party forum. They wanted Bajwa to own up for the poll debacle in Punjab.
