The court of additional district and sessions judge Amit Sharma sentenced a 65-year-old man to 10 years in jail for repeatedly raping a 16-year-old girl for over seven months.
The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict, Sabar Ali, a resident of Pinjore.
The matching of the foetus’s DNA with that of the accused proved to be the clinching evidence in the case. Also, her statement and school-leaving certificate cemented the case of prosecution. The crime came to light when the victim was found to be six-month pregnant, and she revealed to her parents that their landlord, Sabar Ali, had been repeatedly raping her since December 2013.
She alleged that whenever she was alone at home, Ali came to their accommodation and raped her. Thereafter, her father approached the police and a case under Section 376 (rape) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered.
As per the victim’s statement, Ali raped her for the first time when he came to collect the rent and found her alone. He threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone, and continued to rape her whenever she was alone.
