Around 7,000 applications have been received for BCom (first year) course in Panjab University and its affiliated colleges here.
The last date to submit the applications was Friday.
Commerce has emerged as one of the most-sought after courses in recent years and officials said they were expecting high cut-offs this year in the university as well as colleges.
The number of students who had applied online stood at 8,500 but only 7,000 submitted hard copies of the applications to the university till Friday evening, which was the last date for submission.
There are 2,200 BCom seats in the evening department of the university and its affiliated colleges in Chandigarh. Officials said the tentative merit list would be out on June 25, while the final list would be released by June 30.
“The counselling for the course will be conducted at the university between July 3 and 6. Students should visit the website for regular updates as there won't be any physical intimation for the counselling sessions,” said RK Gupta, admission incharge, BCom 1.
