Coming down heavily on owners of illegal paying guest houses in the city, the local police on Sunday carried out an inspection drive and registered cases against seven PG owners, who failed to provide details of the tenants to police.

The checking was carried out on the directions of SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. During the drive, officials directed the PG owners to submit all details of their tenants to the police, to avoid closure of their business.

Deputy superintendent of police (City-2) Navreet Singh Virk said three teams led by Phase 11 SHO Naveen Pal Lehal, Phase 8 SHO Kulbir Singh and Sohana SHO carried out the checking in the PGs and found that the owners were violating norms for renting out accommodations.

After the checking drive, Sohana police booked four PG owners while three were booked by Phase 8 police under Section 188 (disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the IPC.

The drive will continue, police officials said.
