At least seven people were killed while nine others were injured when a private bus ( HP 71-1629) they were travelling in fell down into a 500 feet deep gorge near Haripurdhar, about 95 kms away from here, on Sunday. The ill-fated bus was on its way to Baddi from Ratwa village in Sangrah sub-division of Srimour district.

Among the deceased also include nine-month pregnant Anjana (22) and her husband Jagdish (26), who were believed to be visiting a hospital for the delivery. Other victims have been identified as Luxmi (32), Sant Ram (64), Dharampal (40), Yashpal (30) and bus driver Kapil (25). Most of the victims were locals.

Though the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, primary investigation revealed negligence on part of the driver. DSP (Headquarter) Manmohan Singh said the accident could be due to congested road.

According to an eyewitness, there was no parapet and crash barrier to prevent the bus from rolling down the gorge.

No crash-barriers installed

Eyewitness on the spot said that there was a narrow curve at the accident site and probably the bus driver failed to identity the curve. Sources said the width of the road was only 10 feet, so installation of crash barriers was mandatory to prevent such mishaps. Notably, CPS of public works department represents this constituency.
