The polling process passed off peacefully in Rupnagar district. There was not report of any untoward incident in the district.
However, the polling had to be stopped for some time at a few polling booths in the villages of Ghanauli, Midhwan, Kotla, Darauli and Jagtapura due to fault in electronic voting machines (EVMs).
The AAP lodged a complaint with the district election officer and alleged at the polling booth of DAV Public Senior Secondary School, Rupnagar, votes were being polled to the SAD after pressing any button of the EVM.
The party demanded that the polling at the booth be stopped. The district election office, however, rejected the plea.
The EVMs of Rupnagar district would be kept at Government College, Rupnagar, till the counting day.
Meanwhile, Rupnagar deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer Pardeep Kumar Aggarwal expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct of the polling process and thanked the voters for their cooperation in this regard.
