Punjab health and family welfare minister Surjit Kumar Jyani gave away appointment letters to 72 block extension educators (BEE) appointed in the department on a regular basis.
Congratulating the newly-appointed BBEs, Jyani said they should work honestly and dedicatedly for the welfare of the people. He said the recruitment of these BEEs had been done in a transparent manner by the special selection committee for recruitments in the health department.
He added that the stations were also given to candidates as per their merit and choice among available stations. The minister said the role of BEEs was to educate the community regarding various health issues and prevention and to create awareness about disease prevention.
These posts had been lying vacant for the past many years until the government decided in 2011 to fill them along with other vacant posts of specialists, doctors, staff nurses and radiographers.
