During a raid at a hotel on the Kaithal-Karnal road here, the police have arrested eight people, including the hotel manager, who were allegedly involved in betting during the India-England cricket match. The police also recovered Rs 3.4 lakh, an LED TV and 18 cellphones from their possession.
A police spokesperson, Roshan Lal, said on Friday that a CIA team led by a sub-inspector sent a decoy customer to the hotel and gave him signed currency notes totalling Rs 10,000 for betting on the match. Posing as a customer, a cop contacted the bookies and handed over cash to them.
On his signal, a police party raided the room and nabbed eight bookies who were indulging in the illegal trade. A booking pad, cash, cellphones were recovered from the spot. The accused were identified as Shish Pal Hotel manager Satyavan and Pardeep of Garhi, Sukhbir of Kultaran, Hemant alias Honey of Mahadev Colony, Abhnav and Kapish, both local residents.
The civil lines police have registered a case against all those arrested.
