An 80-year-old pedestrian was killed in a road accident in Chandigarh on Sunday.
The victim was identified as Bhagwan Dass, resident of Sector 8.
He was spotted in a pool of blood at the Sector 7/19 dividing road by a passerby, who informed the police.
The victim was rushed to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), where he was declared brought dead.
Station house officer of the Sector 26 police station inspector Poonam Dilawari said the victim was hit by a rashly driven motorcycle.
He said the driver had fled from the spot.
A case of rash driving, causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others, and causing death by negligence under sections 279, 337 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against unknown persons at the Sector 26 police station.
Poonam Dilawari said the body had been handed over to the family after postmortem.
