The body of a middle-aged man was found in mysterious circumstances at a house in Sector 44A on Wednesday evening. According sources in the police, the body, which was in an advanced state of composition, was later identified as that of Baljeet Singh, a 45-year-old native of Amritsar who was residing as a tenant in a room on the top floor of the house.
They added the body did not have any injury marks.
After being alerted by area residents, the police arrived at the scene and found the doors of the house were open. "Some neighbours called up to say a foul smell was coming out of the house," said DSP (south) Urvija Goel.
Preliminary investigations indicate the body had been lying in his room for about two weeks.
The sources said Baljeet was staying alone at the house and a woman used to visit him frequently but had stopped coming for the past few months. They added according to his neighbours he was an alcoholic and liquor bottles were found lying around in his room.
The sources said the exact cause of death would be ascertained only after getting the autopsy report, adding the police had begun investigations into the matter.
