Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers on Wednesday met Danis Ashraf, director food and civil supplies, and gave him suggestions about the implementation of National Food Security Act, 2013.
Workers stated that the act was a welcome step to ensure subsidised food grains to the deserving beneficiaries. But its implementation was not so easy and there were certain barriers that left poor people devoid of their right to food.
"The food and supplies department has imposed certain conditions for the eligibility under this act, which is almost extremely difficult to adhere to by people and is against the very spirit of this act," the party said in a statement.
They stated that forms to avail of the facility should be made available at all e-sampark centres. They also stated that the verification of voter cards from election commission office with minimum five years of stay in Chandigarh was also impractical condition and should be done away with.
They stated that residents were being asked to give in writing that they were not availing of the facility elsewhere and they were being asked to get affidavits from these places, which would result in harassment of the applicant.
