Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Jannat Jahan, alias Naina managed to secure only 15,934 votes and got the fourth position.

Jannat (33) was the only candidate whose name was declared by the party from this parliamentary seat an year ago. She had a complete one year to make efforts and muster support in the city. Party supporters and workers do not completely blame the candidate for not up to the mark performance.

If the party can be routed in Uttar Pradesh, which had once remained the party chief Mayawati’s stronghold, what can be expected from a place where the BSP does not even have a strong base.

Jannat is known for being vocal in the corporation general house meetings and targeting Congress MP Pawan Kumar Bansal.

Party sources say they expected a much better result but blame the Aam Aadmi Party for spoiling their prospects.

Jannat Jahan said: “I was expecting a much better result, but AAP ate into our vote share. I still thank the people of the city for believing in me. It is just the beginning and we will continue working hard for city residents.”

The party, however, claims that it still managed to get good votes in colonies such as Dhanas, Mauli Jagran and Vikas Nagar. Even Deep Complex, which has been the focus area of Jannat, voted in favour of the BSP leader. Party leader says they would introspect and analyse what went wrong and where.
