AAP volunteers low on enthusiasm about polls in Haryana

After its dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers in Haryana want the party to weigh the prospects well before taking a final call on contesting polls in the state.

For over 10 days, the state leaders of the fledgling party were seeking feedback from its volunteers on whether or not the party had enough resources, manpower and capacity to face the polls against established political parties -BJP, Congress and INLD. And the foot soldiers of the party are divided in their opinion.

Talking to HT, Naveen Jaihind, who had unsuccessfully contested the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat, said that some volunteers were of the opinion that their party stood no chance as the electorate in Haryana vote in the name of caste, creed and region.

On feedback from voters, Jaihind said, "Kuchh voters kehte hain ki wo sirf Jat ko vote denge, kuchh kehte hain ki wo usko vote denge jo unke area mein chaudhar lekar ayega (Some voters say they will vote only for a Jat candidate, while others say that they will vote for a candidate who will bring leadership to the area)".

On the recent statement by party chief Arvind Kejriwal that they would focus only in Delhi and not in Haryana and Maharastra, he clarified that the statement has wrongly attributed to Kejriwal by media as the final decision on this was yet to be taken.

He said that the party would submit the feedback being received from the rank and file to Kejriwal in next 10 days for a final decision on Haryana polls.
