chandigarh Updated: Jun 14, 2012 19:12 IST

Haryana police on Thursday arrested an absconding criminal, Amit Kamboj, from Karnal district and seized a loaded pistol and a stolen motorcycle from his possession.

A spokesperson for the police department said Kamboj had murdered his girlfriend Rita's brother-in-law Ranbir Singh Mann in 2004. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2007.

He was out on parole from Narnaul, but after the completion of parole period he did not return to jail and escaped to Punjab. There he formed a gang and was involved in a number of robberies and dacoities at various places such as Rajpura, Ludhiana, Ropar, Mohali and Hoshiarpur.

There were 35 cases registered against him in Punjab, the spokesperson said, adding that the Punjab police had arrested Kamboj in 2007. He had escaped from the police custody while he was being taken back to the Narnaul jail after a hearing of a case in a Punjab court.
