An Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) leader was allegedly attacked by the activists of Student Organisation of India (SOI) late on Tuesday.

Abhishek Luthra, who is a student of University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), was attacked at hostel number 8 at around 11:15 pm.

ABVP supporters alleged that Luthra was being threatened by the SOI leaders for quite some time as they did not want him to carry out party work on the south campus.

“On Tuesday night, nearly 20 students owing allegiance to SOI came and beat him up outside the hostel number 8,” Harmanjot, an ABVP leader said. The ABVP activists alleged that among those who beat Luthra up were Rashpal Haquwala and Robin Brar. Luthra was allegedly hit on the head with a sharp-edged weapon.

SOI campus president Yadvinder Singh on the other hand denied the charges and said that Rashpal was not even in the city. Police were yet to register a case and Luthra was taken to GMSH, Sector 16, for the medical examination.

PU chief security officer, Jatinder Grover, said that the matter was being looked into.
