In a major embarrassment to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Sukhjot Singh, campus president of ABVP at Panjab University, quit the party and joined  National Students Union of India (NSUI) alleging that the party senior colleagues were not 'serious' about the party affairs.

The joining ceremony took place at Student Centre on Tuesday in the presence of newly appointed NSUI national president, Roji M John.

Singh was named ABVP campus president last month and was associated with the party for about five months.

“I received no guidance from the senior leaders. I was unable to work in the kind of environment that prevailed in the party,” Singh said.

John, who visited PU for the first time after he took over as national president said that he was confident of repeating NSUI's victory like last year.

“We will list out our achievements of our unit in the past one year before the students with and I am sure that victory will be ours,” John said.

John added that NSUI would press for elections in the colleges and universities of Punjab and Haryana.

Earlier, Punjab NSUI chief, Daman Bajwa, former PU campus president, Chandan Rana Manoj Lubana and  Bhupinder Singh Bath among others leaders held a welcome function for the newly appointed national- unit chief at the University Institute of Hotel Management and Training (UIHMT).
