Investigation in the case where a 21-year-old woman was shot dead in Phase 5, SAS Nagar, on Monday, has revealed that the accused, Gurmeet Singh, had reached his friend’s house in Sector 48, a day before the crime.

His friend, Jagroop Singh, is also a native of Ferozepur, as Gurmeet and the victim, Amandeep Kaur, and was residing in a rented accommodation.

Police said it had also come to the fore that both the youths switched off their mobile phones soon after the woman was shot at near her paying guest accommodation. The last tower location of their phones was traced to Phase 5 in SAS Nagar.

Superintendent of police (SP), city 1, Ashish Kapoor said the mobile phones of the accused and Jagroop, who accompanied him to the crime scene, were not recovered from the white Hyundai Verna that they left behind in Phase 5 itself.

Meanwhile sources said the family members of Gurmeet had asked some of his friends to go look for him on Monday as he had not returned home the day before, when he left in his maternal uncle’s car.

Kapoor said efforts were on by several police teams to trace Gurmeet and Jagroop, and constant tab was being maintained at the former’s house in Ferozepur.

He said the police had detained some friends of the duo to find their hide outs and modus operandi. The SP added that after verifying from the Ferozepur police, they had found that Gurmeet had no criminal record.
