Actor Jimmy Shergill visited Panjab University campus in Chandigarh on Monday.
The message sent across by students was that Shergill has come to promote his upcoming Punjabi movie 'Rangeelay', which releases on May 17, but they later denied their claims saying that Shergill was on a casual visit to the university as no advertisement or music was used during his visit. They said that anyone was free to visit the campus and that there was nothing wrong in it.
As per university rule, promotion of any movie inside the university campus has been banned by the authorities. The syndicate and the senate, however, have increased the shooting charges on the campus. The fee for shooting on the campus has been increased from Rs 15,000 per day to Rs 25,000 and only select locations are permitted to be used. Also movies are allowed to be shot only on weekends, when no classes are going on.
Meanwhile, Dean Student welfare (DSW) Dr AS Ahluwalia when contacted was ignorant of the whole issue. He said, "I have no information on this and no student or student leader as such had come to seek any such permission. I will inquire into the issue following which action will be taken accordingly."
Students said Shergill was accompanied by a Punjabi singer and after spending about 20 minutes on the campus, he left.
The DSW office is right above the students centre, but none of the officials were aware of any such development.
