The UT administration has extended the term of Prerna Puri, the UT additional secretary for home and personnel, by a year. The term of the 2006-batch AGMUT-cadre officer was to end on March 31.
The administration has received orders granting the extension from the ministry of home affairs (MHA). A senior official said the orders came after the administration, already grappling with shortage of officers, had requested the MHA to grant extension to Puri, who is also secretary, information technology. She has also served as the UT MC commissioner.
Earlier too, Puri was given a year's extension to serve in Chandigarh after her transfer from here to Arunachal Pradesh was ordered in December 2011. Puri, a triple gold medalist from Panjab University, cleared the IAS in her first attempt by securing the 14th position at the all-India level.
She had also cleared the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) while still pursuing her MA.
