With the approaching IPL season, SAS Nagar administration is geared up to challan people smoking in public places.
Presiding over a meeting held for the preparation of the IPL matches slated to be held at the PCA stadium, SAS Nagar deputy commissioner, Varun Roojam, said, "The matches of the IPL series are the first to be held after SAS Nagar was officially declared a smoke free district, so extra effort would be put in to ensure that no smoking takes place in public places."
He added that the teams had been constituted to ensure compliance of the Tobacco Control Act. "No smoking would be allowed in public places including PCA stadium or areas around the stadium. Anyone found violating would be challaned," added Roojam.
He has even asked various departments to chalk out security plans, to plan diversion of traffic and to earmark parking places keeping in mind the convenience of the residents and the people coming to see the match.
