Additional district and sessions judge Anshu Shukla on Friday acquitted a man after spending six months in jail on the allegations of rape and kidnap of his wife. Sunil Kumar, a resident of Sector-9, Chandigarh, was arrested by the UT police on a complaint from the maternal aunt of the girl on June 8, 2014, accusing him of kidnapping and rape of her niece. The complainant, after her niece went missing, had named Sunil as a suspect and based on this, Sunil was arrested by the police.
“The 19-year-old girl, while testifying before the court, denied all allegations of rape and kidnap, as alleged by her aunt,” said defence counsel Inderjeet Bassi.
In her statement before the court, the girl said “I am married to Sunil and had left my aunt’s house of my own will. I would like to stay with my husband. He has never raped me.” The girl was employed as a domestic help, and hailed from Jharkhand. She had been found missing from her aunt’s house in Sector-9 in June this year. The complainant has now told the court that she did not want to pursue the case.
