Less than a week after the death of two teenage girls, who committed suicide over repeated stalking by some boys, upset the conscience of people of the state, two girls were gangraped at Bhali Anandpur village of the district and at Chiri village in separate incidents.
In first incident on Saturday, a Class-11 girl was abducted by her neighbours, who took turns to rape her and later dumped her at a remote area near a flyover in the town. The accused had threatened her of dire consequences, if she narrated the incident to anyone.
Based on the victim's account, the police arrested one Davinder Singh. However, other accused Sandeep was still at large. The two were booked for rape and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In the other incident at Chiri village of the district on Sunday, four people barged into the house of a minor girl, who was alone at the time of incident and allegedly raped her and threatened her against speaking up. However, her kin lodged a complaint with the police after they came to know of the incident late in the evening.
The police have registered a rape case after confirmation of crime on the basis of medical reports.
As per complaint, four residents of Lakhan Majra identified as Neeraj, Meenu, Bhandari and Manjit had committed the crime by overpowering the minor victim.
Sensing the gravity of the matter, SSP Saurabh Singh handed over the investigation to assistant sub-inspector Sudesh Kumari.
The police said they were raiding at suspected hideouts of the accused to nab them, but no one was arrested till filing of this report.
