AG Punjab crowned champions

Guided by a fluent century by Amit Parashar AG Punjab defeated Delhi Audit by a huge margin of 245 runs in the final of the North Zone IA&AD cricket meet at the Sector 16 cricket stadium on Wednesday.

Batting first, AG Punjab went on an overdrive sending Delhi bowlers on a leather hunt.Amit Parashar led the batting from the front making 117 off just 71 balls inclusive of 16 hits to the fence and five towering sixes.

He was ably supported by Kunwar Raina who made 79 off 73 balls inclusive of 12 hits to the fence. Opener Abhinav Bali was the other notable run getter blasting 85 off just 33 balls studded with six fours and seven towering sixes. Ankit Kaushik also added 84 off 45 balls studded with five fours and six maximums as Punjab reached a mammoth total of 403 for the loss of four wickets in allotted 40 overs. Rohit Saini was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi Audit. He snared two wickets for 79 runs.

Chasing a huge target of 404, Delhi batting faltered and were eventually all out for 158 in 30.3 overs. Pankaj Joshi was the top scorer with 44 runs, while Rohit Saini made 41 runs in the lost cause. For Punjab, medium pacer Jatinder Billa was the pick of the bowlers. He took three wickets for 10 runs. Abhinav Bali and Jaswant Rai took two wickets each.

Rajput, Atwal make it to semis Of AITA Talent Series

CLTA trainees Krishna Rajput and Sultan Singh Atwal made it to the singles’ semifinal of the CLTAAITA Talent Series under-18 tournament at CLTA complex, Sector 10, on Wednesday.

Seerat Kaur Pannu in action against Saumya Saxena in the AITA Talent Series under-18 tournament at CLTA complex, Sector 10, on Wednesday. Seerat won 6-1, 6-2 to enter semifinals.

Earlier in the quarterfinals, second seed Krishna Rajput defeated Kabir Manrai in a marathon three setter match 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2. In the first set Rajput was leading 5-3, but Manrai fought back and won the set 7-6.
In the second set Rajput played solid game from the baseline and grabbed the set 6-3. In the decider set, Rajput conceded only two games to win the match 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2.

In another quarterfinal, Sultan Singh Atwal defeated another Sabrang Sandal in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.
In the girls’ singles’ quarterfinal, CLTA trainee Khushbeen Kaur defeated CHART trainee Princy Panchal in straight sets 7-5, 6-2. Khushbeen will now face Jannat Khurana, who had a comfortable victory over Smera Mehta. Jannat conceded only one game in each set to enter semifinals.
