The Punjab government has issued a public alert against a fraudulent recruitment drive in the name of the 'kisan call centre' reported in the state.

Punjab agriculture director Dr Mangal Singh Sandhu, in a statement here, stated that if someone received a call from any company/agency regarding any job offer, demanding "security money on behalf of the agriculture department", then he or she should immediately inform the chief agriculture officer concerned of that district.

He clarified that the Punjab State Kisan Call Centre was being run by IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited), while the Kisan Sanchar Limited had been authorised by the Union government to recruit manpower in the centre.

Dr Sandhu said the matter might also be brought to the notice of the local administration and the police (toll-free helpline number 1800-180-1551, from 6am to 10pm).

He suggested that before applying and depositing money against any vacancy, applicants should seek advice and authenticate the details with the respective government department.

Applicants for any such job can also contact Dr Sandeep Kumar, agriculture development officer, at the state headquarters at Mohali on the mobile number 9814086937.
