Alert citizens help nab snatchers

In the backdrop of criticism over snatching incidents almost everyday, the Chandigarh police arrested four robbers here with the help of vigilant residents.

Police said they nabbed three men, who were trying to escape on their motorcycle after robbing a pedestrian woman of cash in Manimajra late Friday night.

The accused were identified as Sarabjeet Singh, Victor and Aarav Chauhan, all residents of Manimajra. Soon after the incident, Urmila complained to the policem, who conducted a search and managed to nab the accused. The arrested youths, all in their early 20s, claimed they indulged in petty crimes to make a quick buck to buy liquor.

In another incident, a 20-year-old was arrested for snatching a gold chain from Sector-46 resident when she was returning from the local market on Friday night.

The accused was identified as Sahil Thakur of SAS Nagar. Passersby nabbed him after the woman raised an alarm.

Ved Prakash, a resident of Sector 46, complained to the police that an unidentified person snatched his wife’s gold chain. Both Prakash and his wife were going towards the market when the incident occurred when. The woman raised an alarm and onlookers helped nab the accused. He was handed over to the police and the chain was recovered from him.
