Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday lashed out at the state government for the 12% hike in power tariff by terming it a "real power shock to the people of Punjab".

Amarinder Singh said he and his party had consistently maintained that the state government was planning to increase power tariff rates and was only waiting to wrap up with the municipal and other local bodies' elections, including the Dasuya bypoll.

He asked Parkash Singh Badal to forego of the "huge subsidy" he was "getting on power for his thousands of acres of agriculture land". Demanding the immediate reversal of the hike, the former chief minister said the power corporation should instead prevent losses caused due to the "massive pilferage, transmission and distribution".
