Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh has taken exception to the statement given by former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal in Jalandhar on Sunday, in which she questioned various party decisions of which, Amarinder claimed, she had been "part and parcel".
The PPCC chief was reacting to Bhattal's statement that wrong distribution of tickets led to the Congress' defeat in the Punjab assembly elections. In a statement issued on Sunday, Amarinder said Bhattal should avoid making such statements in public or in the media. "If she really has any opinion about the functioning of the party, she should better give it to the high command, particularly party president Sonia Gandhi," Amarinder told Bhattal.
The PCC president maintained that the party high command had strictly told all leaders not to air their personal opinions about the party functioning in public, adding that a senior leader like Bhattal should better follow the party discipline and guidelines, lest it led to confusion in the party rank and file.
Amarinder said Bhattal had been privy to everything, whether it was the election campaign or distribution of tickets. "It is surprising how could she say it was wrong distribution of tickets when she was part and parcel of the ticket distribution process and campaigning in the state," he said.
