A day after Congress leader Amarinder Singh was divested of the charge of party's Punjab unit chief, his close aide Major(retd) Amardeep Singh on Wednesday resigned as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) secretary.

Amardeep said, it was his "moral" duty to resign so that the new PPCC president can constitute his team.

In a letter addressed to the newly appointed PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa, Amardeep said, "At the onset of your taking over the reins of the Congress in Punjab and keeping to the traditions of this party, I feel my moral obligation to resign as secretary, PCC, so that you can constitute your team."

"As a humble worker of the Congress, I will be always available for any services for the party as and when required," he said.

After the drubbing in the Assembly polls and the recent defeat in the Moga election, Congress Punjab chief was facing flak from party workers and was expected to be removed.

Yesterday he was removed from the post and Gurdaspur MP Bajwa took over the reins of the party in the state.
